From Rome if you have already visited the city
Meet your private air-conditioned vehicle at your Hotel lobby. After that a full day tour will allow you to experience the beauty of Pompeii and Sorrento.
– Drive along the coast
Pompeii was an ancient Roman town near modern Naples, where the common people went on holidays at the time of the ancient Rome. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many ancient towns in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The excavations are huge, and not every area can be visited. By the way tours can be organized to enter the excavations and see as much as possible. You can go inside on your own or with a private licensed guide.
In order to reach Sorrento, you’ll drive along the coast. There you’ll be able to experience the wonderful landscape and you can also stop to take some pictures.
You can eat lunch in Sorrento on your own, or if you prefer you can follow your driver’s suggestions for a lunch stop closer to Pompeii or in Sorrento.
The beauty of Sorrento attracted many important people, and it inspired many songwriters to create songs about it. The town gave also birth to the poet Torquato Tasso, and one of the main squares of Sorrento is entitled to him. Sorrento located near the sea, and from its port ferries and hydrofoils sail to Naples, Capri and other areas nearby. The town is also famous for its Limoncello, one of the best you can find in Italy.
There isn’t a long line that you’ll need to skip when you enter Pompeii, therefore the tickets will be purchased directly on site the moment you get inside. Please note that the first Sunday of each month the entrance to the excavations will be free of charge, therefore there might be a longer line to enter.
You can add hours to your tour in order to visit more sites or to spend more time at each site. You can decide to add extra time at the moment of booking or during the tour itself.
If you want you can visit the excavations of Herculaneum instead of Pompeii. The prices will still be the same.
Please consider that for groups of 6 or more passengers if you take a guided tour inside the excavations in Pompeii you’ll need headsets to hear the guide inside. Headsets can be purchased at the entrance at a cost of around 2 euros per person.
